2017 TEVET GRADUATE BEST BUSINESS PLAN AWARDS

The Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) Authority in its quest to promote the growth of an entrepreneurial culture and the spirit of self-employment in the TEVET sector is inviting submissions for the 2017 TEVET GRADUATE BEST BUSINESS PLAN AWARDS. The aim of these awards is to encourage final year TEVET apprentices to originate viable business ideas that they can implement once they finish their training. 

 

Background:

Section 5(e) and (j) of the TEVET Act of 1999 mandates the TEVET Authority to instill an entrepreneurial culture that promotes self-employment and increases employment opportunities for the youth of Malawi. In order to fulfil this function the TEVET Authority awards various outstanding TEVET business ideas annually as a way of motivating graduates to opt for entrepreneurship when they finish their studies. Apprentices will compete in their field of study at national level including those in the miscellaneous category.

 

Eligibility:

• Should be final year students in registered TEVET institutions.

• Apprentices should develop business plans preferably within their field of study. 

• Apprentices opting to present business plans in areas other than their field of study will compete under a miscellaneous category. 

• Apprentices should develop business plans that are legally acceptable within the laws of Malawi.

• Apprentices may develop business plans either as an individual or a group (partnership). 

 

Awards

Successful students will get the following prizes:

 

• A cash prize of K200,000.00; 

• A trophy; 

• Linkage to financing institutions; and, 

• Support through business training and incubation.

2017 TEVET ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR AWARDS

 

The Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) Authority in its quest to instil a spirit of Entrepreneurship in the TEVET sector is inviting submissions for the 2017 TEVET ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR AWARDS. The aim of these awards is to recognise TEVET entrepreneurs who are running successful enterprises either individually or in a partnership.

Background:

Section 5(e) and (j) of the TEVET Act of 1999 mandates the TEVET Authority to instill an entrepreneurial culture that promotes self-employment and increases employment opportunities for the youth of Malawi. In order to fulfil this function the TEVET Authority awards various outstanding TEVET entrepreneurs annually as a way of motivating all TEVET graduates to opt for entrepreneurship when they finish their studies.

Eligibility: 

• Should be carrying out a technical and vocational skills based enterprise in any of the following trades; Carpentry and Joinery, Bricklaying, Automobile Mechanics, Vehicle Body Repair and Refinishing, Motorcycle Mechanics, Painting and Decoration, Woodwork and Machining, Administrative Studies, Printing, Electrical Installation and Electronics, Fabrication and Welding, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanics, Food Production, Textile & Designing , Plumbing, Fashion Arts and Beauty; Hair Dressing and Massaging, ICT and General Fitting;

• Should have been in business for not less than two years;

• Should be a Malawian;

• Should have a minimum of three employees;

• Should have identifiable business premises;

• The business should be registered with the Registrar General;

• Should have a business bank account;

• Should maintain proper financial records;

• Should have a TEVET certificate, whether obtained in Malawi or beyond;

• The applicants business must be legally acceptable by the laws of Malawi;

• Should be of Malawian nationality

 

Requirements;

• Complete application form.

• Business registration certificate.

• Identification copy of (passport, driver’s licence or voters ID).

 

Eligible applicants will compete under the following three award categories: 

 

• First place, a cash prize of K1,000,000.00 

• Second place, a cash prize of K500,000.00

• Third place, a cash prize of K300,000.00
